With the 2017-18 athletic season set to begin at the end of this month, here’s a look back at the top ten stories of the year from Richmond High School athletics from 2016-17. The Red Devils enjoyed a great deal of success in many sports, but a few teams and individuals merited a bit more distinction. Check the website throughout the month of July for stories and photos from those moments.

Here’s the No. 10 story of the year for the Red Devils: Volleyball racks up wins

Richmond’s volleyball team continues to make a name for itself in the area and in its conference. The Red Devils went 23-11 this past fall and had their highest finish in the North Central Conference in a decade.

Playing in a sectional, conference, and with a schedule that includes some of the state’s premier programs, Richmond proved its place with down-to-the-wire matches against teams like Class 4A No. 2 Delta. Also, for the third straight season, the Red Devils on their own early season invitational.

All-NCC performers included Paityn Farris, Rebekah Johnston, Kaesha Bentley, and Lauren Pierce. Farris will continue her playing career at IU-East.

The 2017-18 version of the Devils open their season on Aug. 14 against Pendleton Heights.
