Richmond High School
Shelbyville High School
Richmond dropped a 55-54 decision in the closing seconds in Friday’s non-conference game at Shelbyville.
The Golden Bears connected on 2-of-3 free throws with 0.9 seconds remaining after a controversial foul on a 3-point shot, spoiling a spirited effort from the Red Devils.
Richmond had just retaken the lead 54-53 on senior A.J. Ferguson’s rebound basket before the Red Devils were whistled for a foul on a long desperation 3-pointer after a scramble for a loose ball.
Ferguson had 10 points and 10 rebounds despite battling foul trouble for much of the second half where Richmond saw its 11-point halftime lead evaporate.
The Devils were balanced in the first half, building their lead as high as 14. But Shelbyville, aided by 16 free throw attempts in the second half, rallied for the victory.
Christian Harvey had 15 points and 5 assists to lead Richmond, while Rickie Wedlow added 11 points that included three 3-point field goals. Kei’Shaun Clemons added eight points and eight rebounds before fouling out and Trey Griffin chipped in nine points.
The Red Devils return to action on Saturday when they host Dayton Belmont at Tiernan Center. The game is set to tip at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the boys/girls doubleheader.
