Red Devil runners put up new PRs as the invitational season got underway in Rushville on Saturday, August 26.
Julian Reeves was the top finisher for the boys team with a time of 18:14. He placed 25th overall in a highly competitive field of athletes. Brendy Mendoza-Gaytan led the Lady Devils with a time of 26:40, followed closely by Lily Schamel at 26:48. Both teams finished 10th in their respective divisions of 13.
When asked about the meet, senior Luis Vivanco said, “Even though we didn’t place as high as we wanted to at Rushville, most of our runners have dramatically improved since the previous year and I expect these improvements to keep increasing over the school year.”
“This was my first meet of the season, and it didn’t go as well as I would have liked it to, but the rest of the team did amazing,” said junior Maddie Freeman. “I’m excited to see what else we can all bring to this season.”
“I was very pleased with how our times came down throughout the entire team,” said Coach Ken Hittson. “I was very impressed with how cross-country newcomers Brendy Mendoza and Jennifer Lopez ran at Saturday’s meet.”
The Red Devil runners will take to the course again next weekend at the Marion Invitational, hosted at Indiana Wesleyan University.
