It came down to the wire on Saturday, with Richmond taking victory on a dramatic walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning that sealed their win over Lafayette Jefferson at historic Loeb Stadium. The game was tied at six with bases loaded and one out for Richmond when sophomore Gabe Crowe singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring senior Darius Clemens with the seventh and decisive run.

The Red Devils earned the victory despite allowing Lafayette Jefferson to score six runs in the third inning. Devin Siple, Christian Maggio, Riley Eberhart, and Matthew Koeppen all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

In the second inning, Richmond got their offense started when Crowe‘s sac fly scored one run for the Red Devils.

Lafayette Jeff led RHS most of regulation until the Red Devils knotted the game up at six in the bottom of the seventh inning, when an error allowed a run to score.

Senior Ben Chaney was the winning pitcher for Richmond. He lasted four innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out four. Junior Brice Brown started the game for RHS. He surrendered six runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out five

The Red Devils collected 13 hits. Junior Phillip Hobbs and senior Parker Smith all had multiple hits for Richmond. Hobbs led his teammates with four hits in five at-bats.

Lafayette Jefferson tallied ten hits on the day. Jensen Wenrick, Christian Maggio, Kdani Washington, and Riley Eberhart each racked up multiple hits for Lafayette Jefferson.

Richmond is now 13-8 overall and 7-3 in the North Central Conference. Next up for the Red Devils is an NCC contest with Anderson at Loeb Stadium in Saturday’s nightcap of NCC play.
