The Richmond girls track team finished fourth in the Connersville track sectional last night.
Riley Austin walked away as the individual sectional champion in the long jump with a jump of 16′ 0.5″ and the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.53 seconds.
Nakala Bennett also walked away a sectional champion in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.73 seconds. Bennett wasn’t done scoring for the night, as she came back and finished eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.52 seconds.
The girls 4×100 meter relay team of Austin, Payton VanMiddlesworth, Lindsey Griffin, and Riley Wetzel were also sectional champions with a time of 51.94 seconds.
Austin and Griffin also finished with an unbreakable tie in third-place with their final high jumps of 4’10”.
VanMiddlesworth continued her hot streak, finishing in third place in the 400 meter dash (1:05.06) and third place in the 3200 meter run (13:05.65). Wetzel returned to score in the 800 meter run with a sixth-place 2:37.77.
The 4×800 meter relay team of Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Swonder, Brendy Mendoza-Gaytan, and Wetzel finished the night with a fifth-place 12:23.08. In pole vault, Suniah Parsons cleared 6’6″ to nab a third-place finish.
Not to be outdone in the final event of the night, the girls 4×400 meter relay put up a scoring seventh-place finish. The team consisted of Wetzel, Valaree Kaiser, Lauren Foote, and VanMiddlesworth.
The girls return to action in the Shelbyville Regional next Tuesday 5/22 at 6:00 PM.
