The Richmond High School girls track team wrapped up their season Tuesday night at the Shelbyville Regional meet.
The 4×100 meter relay team of senior Lindsey Griffin, senior Riley Austin, sophomore Riley Wetzel, and junior Payton VanMiddlesworth finished in 11th place with a time of 52.50 seconds.
Griffin and Austin both competed in the high jump. Griffin went out after a 4’10” jump and Austin followed close behind after clearing 5’0″. Austin also competed in the long jump, where she finished in 13th place with a best jump of 16′ 0.25″. She added another feather to her cap with a 14th place 28.24 second 200 meter dash preliminary run.
VanMiddlesworth also competed in the 3200 meter run, completing it with a time of 12:33.80. Junior Suniah Parsons was the only other Richmond competitor, tying with five others who were unable to clear the opening pole vault height of 8’6″.
The season isn’t over for all of Richmond track, however. Eleven hopefuls from the boys team will compete in Thursday’s Regional at Franklin Community High School for a chance to compete at the State meet.
