Led by senior Indiana All-Star candidate Lucas Kroft, Richmond rallied for a thrilling 48-45 win in its sectional opener against Pendleton Heights.
Kroft had a game-high 28 points, including a driving basket as he was fouled in the closing seconds to lift the Red Devils to its first postseason win since Richmond won the regional in 2015.
Sophomore Andrew Kroft chipped in seven points, all after a clutch blocked shot, in the fourth quarter. Senior Jordan Frye had five points and five rebounds as Richmond stormed back from an 11-point deficit early in the third quarter.
Lucas Kroft finished an efficient 12-of-19 from the field in leading the Devils into Friday’s semifinals. Richmond will take on defending sectional champion Mt. Vernon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Tiernan Center. Connersville and New Palestine will play the first semifinal at 6 p.m.
