The Lady Red Devils traveled to Connersville for Sectional last night and returned with a fist full of ribbons and six individuals advancing to Regional.
“I’m so proud of these girls. The freshman have stepped up in a big way under the leadership of the upperclassmen. They are a force to be reckoned with and will only continue to get stronger through their high school career,” commented coach Britni Gettinger.
Those scoring points and earning ribbons include: Jayci Allen placed 8th in high jump, Molly O’Brien placed 8th in discus, Aubrey Uhte placed 5th in the pole vault. The 4×800 team of Brianna Hilliard, Ashley Kelley, Brendy Mendoza, and Payton VanMiddlesworth placed in the 6th spot. The 4×400 relay team of Loni Eubanks, Nakala Bennett, Khalidah Hickson, and VanMiddlesworth took home 7th place.
It was a hard-fought battle to place in the top three to earn a trip to Regional. VanMiddlesworth took 3rd place in the 3200 meter run and 4th place in the 1600 meter run. Bennett earned two spots with her 3rd place in the 400m dash, 2nd place in the 200 meter dash, and first in the 100-meter dash. However, Bennett chose to drop from competing in the 100m at Regional which bumped up teammate, Eubanks who finished fourth in the 100m to advance to Regional. After a scoring error, Tamia Hampton got the news this morning that she will also be competing in Regional in the 200m. The 4x100m team of Eubanks, Aaliyah Porfidio-Brown, Hickson, and Hampton won the meet advancing them to next week.
