The Lady Devils needed a dose of home cooking and got a full serving tonight hosting Franklin County at the friendly confines of the Richmond Elks. RHS defeated the Wildcats 168 to 176.
The evening saw some really good golf from 1st time Medalist Esther Etherington who dropped a cool 38 to edge out FC’s low player by 1 stroke. The rest of the Lady Devils playing against a Wildcat put their scores in the 40s with Ashlyn Spurrier 42, Brianna Fisher 43, Zoe Brock 45, & Mackenzie McGrew’s 46. 6th spot holder Macky Laughlin dipped into the 40s with a 48 in her first opportunity to compete for the season. Molly Mendehall, Ally Capps, & Gabby Martinez got a fruitful practice round during the match.
The future continues to be bright for this team as they develop. Lady Devils are on the road next playing Randolph Southern at Winchester on Thursday.
The RHS Girls golf team got a great experience and hard lesson on what we need to work on at the State Preview Invite held yesterday at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. Richmond finished 18th on the long and beautiful course. The track was fraught with water and other penalty areas that challenged our short game and ball striking. But lessons were learned and we also got exposed to some very talented teams that are predicted to vie for the State Title later this season. This team is developing and are fun to watch as they improve each week. RHS’s next test will come as they host Franklin County in a match in Monday.
