Richmond dug deep on Saturday against an unbeaten Connersville team on the road.
But the Red Devil rally came up just short as the Class 3A No. 4 Spartans held on for a 36-32 win.
Richmond had trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half.
The Red Devils trimmed the lead to four in the final three minutes, but ultimately fell short in the low-scoring affair.
Tytan Newton topped Richmond with 14 points, while Cleevas Craig added 11.
The Red Devils return to action on Friday when they play host to Seton Catholic in the opening round of the annual Bob Wettig Memorial Tournament played at Tiernan Center.
Richmond’s junior varsity lost 50-34 with Dorian Hill topping the Devils with 10 points.
