Alyssa Hollinsgworth was eagerly anticipating her senior tennis season at Richmond High School. While that opportunity was lost when the season was cancelled, Alyssa now looks forward to her college career as she has signed to play with Indiana University East.
IU East is in the River States Conference and has seen their tennis programs continue to improve over the years. Alyssa will major in Human Life Sciences (Physical Therapy). Alyssa chose IU East because, “I personally wasn’t ready to leave home and I wanted to stay somewhere close to watch my brother play. Also I really enjoyed the campus and loved the area.”
Alyssa began playing tennis during her 8th grade year. In the off season, she hits inside of Earlham and goes to Ohio to hit at a club and play in tournaments to improve her skills year-round. That hard work paid off, and during her sophomore year the Red Devils won the Sectional.
When Alyssa thinks about RHS she said, “I’ve enjoyed all of the life-long memories I made there. I made a lot of friends not only in school but on the tennis court as well.” When looking back on her high school career, Alyssa said, “I’ll definitely miss the tennis team. They’re such a huge part of me and I will forever be grateful for the experiences I’ve made with the team. Also many of the memories I made at school with my friends. I would also like to thank Randy (Coach Hollingsworth). I want to thank him because he’s helped me tremendously ever since I’ve started. I wouldn’t be the player I am today without his help.”
When asked to describe Alyssa, Coach Hollingsworth said, “Alyssa truly enjoyed playing tennis. She always posted pictures and quotes about looking forward to our season. She was a tremendous competitor.”
We wish Alyssa all the best at IU East, and we congRatulate her on a great career at RHS.
