Girls Varsity Golf · RHS Girls Golf Team finishes in 4th Place at Regionals

The Lady Devils capped off a great season in dramatic fashion this past Saturday as they finish in 4th place at the Lapel Regional Tournament. RHS just barely misses out on going to the State Tournament as the top 3 Regional finalists get to go. The outcome was unknown until the end as Richmond was in the last pairings with eventual 3rd place finisher Greenfield Central.  Richmond stuggled on the greens on the cold and blustery day which cost them as they finished only 6 strokes behind. Junior #1 golfer Esther Etherington and Sophomore Zoe Brock were the only Red Devils to score in the 80s (84, 86). Freshman Isabella Roll, Senior Ashlyn Spurrier, and Junior Macky Laughlin finished with scores of 90, 91, and 99 respectively. This ends a very successful campaign for the 2020 Lady Devil Golfers as they have won the Joe Moehring Invitational, The Union County Sectional and the North Central Conference Championship. They featured 4 all NCC conference players and have won all but 1 of their head to head matches with multiple medalist honors won by their top 3 players. Richmond has been lead this year by 2nd year coach Brent Struewing who also took the 2020 NCC Coach of the Year honors.  Richmond will miss Ashlyn’s leadership, experience, and strong play but with a a developing JV, and returning 5 players with Varsity experience lead by the very capable Esther Etherington, the Lady Devils look to keep the winning tradition going into the 2021 season.
