Girls Varsity Basketball · Alayha Allen Commits to Olivet Nazarene University

On Thursday evening at the Tiernan Center, while surrounded by family and friends, Alayha Allen committed to Olivet Nazarene.

Olivet Nazarene University is located in Bourbonnais, Illinois and is a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC).   Alayha will major in business.  When asked why she chose Olivet, she said, “Despite its location, it was the one that felt closest to home. I loved the environment and people there; it made me feel comfortable.”

Alayha has been a 4 year member of the basketball team where she has earned numerous awards including defensive player of the year, and various North Central Conference Honors.  Wednesday evening she earned All-NCC 1st team honors as she lead her team to a 4th place finish in the conference this season.

Alayha began playing basketball 6 years ago, and she plays year round.  If she is not playing for RHS, she is playing for her AAU team, running (she is also a member of the track team), or working out at the gym.  Alayha said, “I’d like to thank my parents, my family,  my teammates, my coaches and my city. I wouldn’t be at the spot that I am at or who I am without them. I will FOREVER be grateful for that and them.”  She said she will miss the people and those good time at RHS.

The basketball program will miss her as well.  Coach Shane Hillard reflected on her impact on the program, “Alayha has been a joy to coach.  She has been one of the faces of this program for the last 3 years and helped to build a strong culture in Richmond Girls Basketball.  Olivet is getting a quality person, student and athlete.”

CongRatulations, Alayha.  We R proud of you, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!
