Jack Guiley committed to play football at DePauw Wednesday afternoon while surrounded by family (Brett and Shannon Guiley (parents), Lauren and Addi Guiley (sisters) Eric and Linda Van Vleet (grandparents) Brad and Kelly Van Vleet (aunt and uncle) Drew and Bryn Van Vleet (cousins), friends, and teammates inside the Tiernan Center.
DePauw is located in Greencastle, Indiana and is a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference. Jack chose DePauw because, “DePauw is a top academic school, and they gave me the opportunity to be a college athlete.” Jack will major in economics as he looks forward to a career in finance.
Jack lettered in football all four years at Richmond High School. He was also All-NCC twice (2019,2020), IFCA Region 8 All-Star 2020, Co-Defensive MVP 2020, and he led the team in tackles twice. Jack was also a two time Regional qualifier in wrestling. Jack began playing football in the first grade, and he has been wrestling since his freshman year. In the offseason lifts weights four times a week and works on speed training. Varsity football coach Coach Sonsini says the Red Devils will miss Jack’s leadership on and off the field, “Jack Guiley is a great student athlete. Jack is everything you want in a student athlete. He worked extremely hard both in the classroom and on the football field. He was our defensive captain and lead the team in tackles this past season. We will miss #4 Jack Guiley!”
When asked what he enjoyed most about RHS, Jack replied, “the friends and lifelong connections I’ve formed with peers and educators alike.” He said he will miss the feeling of community. When reflecting on his high school career, Jack said, “I’d first like to thank God, without him I wouldn’t be in the position I am today. I’d also like to thank my entire family for pushing me to be my best throughout my high school career. The early mornings and late nights were made a lot easier due to the time and effort put forth by you guys to make sure I performed my best academically and athletically. Thank you to all my coaches throughout all levels of my athletic career for believing in me and putting me into positions to succeed. Thank you to John Kamps and Coach Shields for getting me prepared each off season to be in shape for the physical grind that is an entire football season. Finally, thank you to Coach Dietz and Coach Morris at DePauw for giving me this amazing opportunity to live out my dream of playing football at the next level.”
CongRatulations, Jack! We R proud of you!
