Girls Track Takes First in Union City Quad

The Red Devils girls track team came out with a win on Monday night in Union City.
The girls kicked off the running events with a decisive win in the 4×800 meter relay. The team of Lily Schamel, Vanya Sanchez-Castillo, Lydia Casiano, and Claire Reising won the event with a time of 11:22.2.
The Distance Devils continued to add points with Claire Reising’s second-place debut in the 1600 meter run at a time of 5:54.06. Vanya Sanchez-Castillo added to the score with a fourth-place time of 6:29.60. Lydia Casiano claimed victory in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:47.46. She was followed up by a fourth-place finish from Bess Scheiben at 3:01.15. Lily Schamel and Gracie Thalls earned points for the Devils in the 3200 meter run. Their respective times of 14:32.18 and 15:07.68 allowed them to take fourth and fifth in the event.
The sprints kicked off with a one-two punch from Tu’Shawn Farris and Loni Eubanks with times of 13.12 seconds and 13.75 seconds in the 100 meter dash. In a tight 100 meter hurdles race, Khalidah Hickson and Kinsey Bosell were hot on each other’s heels in second and third, with Hickson finishing in 18.75 seconds and Bosell in 18.85 seconds. The 200 meter dash led to first- and fourth-place finishes for the Red Devils, with Tamia Hampton’s winning time of 28.62 seconds and Lavender Daniels’ scoring debut at a time of 31.31 seconds. In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Loni Eubanks, Tamia Hampton, Tu’Shawn Farris, and Aaliyah Porfidio-Brown took first in a time of 53.56 seconds. In the 400 meter dash, Alonna Wethington claimed first place with a 1:08.08 sprint followed by Iyana Waddell in third place at a time of 1:12.02. Finally, Kinsey Bosell earned second place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 57.65 seconds.
In the field events, the Devils took third and fourth in the long jump. Mary-Alice Zaleski had a best jump of the night at 13’2” and was followed closely by Tu’Shawn Farris at 13’ even. In the high jump, Zaleski took first place at 4’11” followed by Iyana Waddell in fourth at 4’2”. Molly O’Brien had a banner night in the field events with first place in both the shot put and the discus. Her shot put of 33’2.5” was followed closely by Sophia Laughlin-Foster in second place at 31’7”. O’Brien took the discus by storm at a throw of 103’3”. She was followed by a second-place finish from Grace Cartee at 77’3”.
Richmond wrapped up the night with a second-place finish in the 4×400 meter relay. Madeline Stults, Lydia Casiano, Vanya Sanchez-Castillo and Claire Reising finished the race with a time of 4:44.05.
Times for non-scoring athletes were not provided by Union City. The girls track team returns to action this Friday in Lafayette in the North Central Conference meet.
