🎾 RED DEVILS TENNIS | SECTIONAL FINAL CENTERVILLE 3 | RICHMOND 2 A HEARTBREAKING FINISH TO A SEASON FILLED WITH FIGHT. Richmond Boys Tennis battled Centerville all the way to the final set Thursday in the IHSAA Sectional Championship before falling just short, 3-2. Xander Harrick gave Richmond a point at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 7-5 victory, while Tej Patel closed out an outstanding season with a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. Baltazar Torres-Mejia battled a strong opponent at No. 2 singles before falling 3-6, 1-6. At No. 1 doubles, Mason Wetzel and James Scherer turned in a spirited performance, falling 2-6, 5-7 in a match that was much closer than their meeting with the same Centerville duo just one week earlier. Then everything came down to one court. With the team score tied 2-2 and No. 2 doubles tied at one set apiece, Samuel Diaz Forero and Miguel Mira-Galeano entered the final set with the sectional championship hanging in the balance. The Richmond duo fell behind 1-5 but refused to go away. They battled all the way back to 4-5 before Centerville finally secured the final game and the match, 6-4. The Red Devils finish the season 9-12 overall, including sectional play. 🎾 XANDER’S SEASON CONTINUES! Although the team season has ended, Xander Harrick isn’t finished yet. Harrick finishes the team portion of the season with an outstanding 17-2 record at No. 1 singles. By winning both of his matches during the team sectional, Harrick advances to the IHSAA Individual Singles Tournament. NEXT UP FOR XANDER Tuesday, October 6
