Meet Recap

On a dismal windy day, the Richmond Boys Golf team fell to a red hot Hagerstown team 164-155. Windy conditions made scoring tough, but the visiting Tigers played smart as a team and limited their mistakes in taking down the Red Devils in the 9 hole dual match. Richmond had previously defeated Hagerstown in two tournaments already, both the Justin Cross/Bo Van Pelt Invitational and the Noblesville Invitational this past Saturday.
The loss stung even more as the Devils were looking to establish themselves in the top 20 in the state and a good performance this weekend at the upcoming Winchester Invitational. Coach Ron Murphy added, “I hate to lose. For some reason, we struggle with 9 hole matches here at Richmond. We need to focus on the little things and prepare better mentally. It cost us strokes today and every match because we worry too much about everything and need to focus on our pre-match, pre-hit, pre-chip, pre-putt routines and just play one shot at a time. Just let the game come to us, miss small, play for each other, and that’s all you can do.”
After the match, the Red Devils were treated to a talk by 2 former players on Coach Murphy’s 2003 State-winning team, A.J. Walton and C.D. Hockersmith. A special thanks goes out to them and all the Richmond golf alumni that set the precedent of success and one this team hopes to continue.

Meet Recap

Amidst the amber waves of grain in central Indiana, the Richmond Boys Varsity Golf team defeated both Monroe Central (197) and New Castle (170) in a Tri-Match at Hickory Hills in Farmland with RHS shooting a team total of 165. A lack of rain made the greens like concrete, making landing iron shots onto the green a tough business, but the Devils found a way to beat former NCC foe New Castle by 5 strokes. Senior Noah Reisner stated, “These greens were so hard and slick…putting was difficult at times, but I felt like I was hitting the ball pure, so that’s a good takeaway from today.” Coach Ron Murphy added, “The greens were tough today, but everybody (New Castle & Monroe Central) had to play them. We need to be more inspired as a team and inspire each other to perform better. We have a chance to be really special and we can do it if everyone stays and works hard together and we can only do it as a team.”
