Tigers Triumph over Tribe
Have you ever ridden a school bus up 227 to Union City? Tickets please? The undulating, roller coaster ride to play the Union City Indians was a precursor to the up and down level of play exhibited by the eighth grade Tiger volleyball team. As the whistle signaled the start of the ride, there was the nervous anticipation of what was to come. The energy level was high and expectations were higher. And then, a rapid, precipitous drop into the abyss of volleyball purgatory precipitated by four service errors in six rotations. That plummeted the Tigers from their normal high level of play into a messy, error filled display of frustration. Volleyball proves to be a very difficult game to play if you don’t serve the ball inside the lines and it also keeps the score very close. Neither team could demonstrate control, and neither team was playing well.
The second rotation around the court proved to be quite different. It began with Paighton Morken serving four aces. A quick timeout by the Indians did little to slow the momentum and the Tigers were on a roll. An overpass kill by Kamryn Wright was intimidationg, two more aces and the Tiger’s ride continued gaining speed. Three points by Edyn Curry, three more from Brylynn Quisenberry and the hectic experience ended in a bumpy 25-18 victory for the felines.
The Tigers started the second set with a confidence and consistency that has been their standard. Everyone was making contributions. Two points here, three points there, the void on the scoreboard began to grow. The Tigers were in control. Again, Morken rotated back to serve and blitzed the Indians with another eight points. Demonstrating total control and team effort, the Tigers finished the second set 25-10. The victory pushes the Tigers to a record of 8-1. The Spartans of Connersville will invade Test Fieldhouse on Wednesday at 5:30. Join in the fun and support your hard working Tigers.
