The Test Tigers found themselves in a dog fight Thursday night at the Tiernan Center against their cross town rivals the Dennis Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs played some good defense and knocked down some key shots, while the Tigers struggled from the field.
Down by 3 at the half and not really making any progress to gain some momentum, we found ourselves down by as much as 14 moving into the early stages of the 4th quarter. Now I’m worried, due to the body language of my guys. They looked like it just might be over.
Then just what we needed- a couple good defensive plays and a couple quick points from Cedric Hogg was the spark and glimmer of hope we were looking for.
Finding ourselves down by 1 with about 8 seconds to go I called a time out. The only thing I told them was, we have plenty of time to get a good shot, take care of the ball and we have to get a shot off driving to the basket. Well part of that worked. We were able to swing the ball around to the top of the key where Ryder Cate was fouled while taking a 3 pointer with 1.3 seconds left on the clock. Ryder knocked down all three free throws and the Tigers pulled out the victory 46 – 44.
The future looks bright for the Red Devils with another good group from both of these schools coming up.
Cedric Hogg lead the Tigers scoring with 13, followed by Ryder Cate adding 10, Zion Deloney 8, Tink Street 6, Kobe Williams 5, and Lanier Smithson with 4.
Great game and GO TIGERS !!!!
