The Red Devils defeated the Bearcats 29-27 on Saturday afternoon. Richmond jumped out to a 6-0 lead early sparked by sisters Alayha and Jayci Allen. The Red Devils got many field goal attempts, but had trouble getting shots to fall. Despite attacking the basket, Richmond only shot one from the free throw stripe prior to entering the locker room for half time.
The second half also was a challenge for the Red Devils. Once again, Richmond had many shot attempts, but nothing would fall for the Red Devil squad. The Bearcats made a run in the last four minutes of the half give the Red Devils a run for their money. Richmond however, did not stop attacking the basket. Seven of Richmond’s eleven second half points came from the free throw line. Despite last stitch efforts to knock down two free throws to tie the game by the Bearcats, the Red Devils would squeak by with the win. Alayha Allen led the team by posting a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebonds. The Red Devils are back in action on Tuesday at home against Rushville.
The JV Red Devils also had a tough time scoring the ball Saturday. Unfortunately they would not prevail against the Bearcats scrappy defense. The Red Devils would lose the contest 45-11.
