The Red Devils faced the home team Tipton in the second game of the Holiday Classic this evening.
Richmond and the Blue Devils were off to a close start to end the first quarter 11-9. Offense sparked by Jakaia Lotz helped forge the Red Devils ahead in the second quarter offensively. On the other end of the court, mental toughness and lock down defense allowed the Red Devils to keep Tipton’s six foot freshman forward off the glass and in foul trouble. Richmond would lead by nine going into halftime.
Out of half the Blue Devils looked to make a run, but the Red Devils’ poise on the offensive end made this too tough for the home team. Behind the scoring of Lotz, Orr, and A.Allen, the Red Devils would extend the lead to 13 to close out the third.
In the fourth, once again the Blue Devils were not ready to give up. Big buckets from behind the arc from Tipton senior guard Gracie Phillips helped pull the blue Devils to within five with under a minute to play. Richmond however kept their composure and held off the hometown favorites. The Red Devils would go on to win 54-49.
Scoring was lead by Jakaia Lotz with a career high of 25, followed by Orr with 13 and A.Allen with 12. Richmond will play tomorrow in a rematch with Jennings County for the championship game.
