Friday night the Richmond Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted the Marion Giants. The Giants jumped out to an early lead, closing out the first quarter up eight points on the Red Devils. Although the Red Devils got multiple good lucks, buckets would just not fall for Richmond. Going into half they would trail by 15.
The second half didn’t prove to be much different in the scoring struggles of the Red Devil squad. They attempted to make a run, scoring 8 to the Giants 10 in the third quarter, but the Red Devils couldn’t quite close the gap. A couple of big threes by Kenzie Wert started to shift the momentum, but injuries struck the Red Devils late when both Ajah Orr and Alayha Allen went down on separate plays. The Red Devils would eventually fall to Marion 48-33. Leading the scoring column was Kenzie Wert with 10 and Jakaia Lotz with 8.
In JV action the Red Devils also fell to the Giants 36-54. With injuries beginning to resolve for the young squad, the Red Devils are beginning to gel as a team. Although they fell short to Marion, they continue to put up better numbers. Kamryn Wright played a nice offensive game putting up 14 points. She was followed by P. Morken and Hickson with 7 a piece.
