Last Tuesday night the Red Devils traveled to Rushville to take on the Lions. The Red Devils started off the first quarter strong, knocking down one triple and a few shots in the paint. The Lions then made their run and ended out the first up by five. Going into the second half, turnovers and fouls plagued the Red Devils. The Lions capitalized on this by going 10 for 10 from the FT line. This put Rushville up 16 at halftime. Third quarter provided no change for the Red Devils leading them into the fourth quarter down 15. Defensive changes and a momentum swing was needed. Just before the five minute mark in the fourth, Red Devil’s Senior Kierra Wright knocked down two quick back to back threes. This was the boost the Red Devils had been searching for. Gritty defense, and some big offense boards by sophomore Alayha Allen, helped to chip aways at the Lions lead getting it once to single digits. However, the Lions weren’t willing to back down thus resulting in a Rushville victory. Red Devils were led in scoring by Kierra Wright with 18 and sophomore Ajah Orr with 11. Next game will be Tuesday at Franklin County. Varsity tipoff at 7:00PM.
JV also struggled against the Lions last Tuesday night. The Lions JV had balanced scoring throughout the evening, while the Red Devils struggled to get in an offense rhythm. The Lions led at the end by 28 resulting in a final score of 43-15. Freshman Jayci Allen led Richmond in scoring with seven points, followed by junior guard Desi Jewell with six. They too return to action at Franklin County on Tuesday. Game tips off at 6:00PM.
