After three scoreless innings, the Red Devils opened up the game in the top of the fourth. Senior Brice Brown was hit by a pitch. Junior Jarred Flood came in as a courtesy runner for Brown who was the Red Devil pitcher. Senior Mikey Vance singled on a bunt that went escaped both the pitcher and the first baseman advancing Flood to second base.
Freshman Nick Turner took a 1-1 pitch into right field scoring Flood and advancing Vance to third base. Junior Daulton Coates went in as a courtesy runner for Turner who was the Red Devil catcher. Vance then scored on a wild pitch which also saw Coates advance from first base to third base. Junior Gabe Crowe then walked to put runners at first base and third base. A new Raider pitcher was brought in followed by a steal of second base by Crowe. Senior Mason Brewer then drove a hard hit ball to left field scoring both Coates and Crowe giving the Red Devils a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
In the top of the fifth inning, senior Phillip Hobbs singled to center field and advanced to second base on a throwing error. Brown was then walked. Flood once again came in to run for Brown. Vance then lined a single to center field driving in Hobbs and advancing Flood to second base. With one out, Crowe walked to load the bases. Flood scored on a wild pitch that also advanced Vance to third base and Crowe to second base. Brewer grounded out to the shortstop scoring Vance and advancing Crowe to third base. Sophomore Colton Fox singled on a line drive to center field scoring Crowe and giving the Red Devils an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, Turner drove a double down the right field line. Coates came in to run as the courtesy runner and scored on a 2-run home run hit by Brewer giving the Red Devils a 10-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
Hobbs came in to pitch the seventh inning in relief of Brown. After issuing a base on balls to the leadoff batter, Hobbs proceeded to strikeout the side securing the victory for Richmond on the visitor’s home field by a 10-0 score. Brown (W, 3-1) looked near flawless allowing only one Shenandoah hit while walking one and striking out ten Raider batters.
Offensively, Brewer led the Red Devils with a single, a home run, and five runs batted in. Turner had a single, a double, and 1 RBI. Vance had two singles and a RBI. Hobbs collected two singles. Fox had a single and a RBI.
Richmond (13-4) has an away game at Union County Thursday evening. Shenandoah (7-5) has a home non-conference game versus Mt. Vernon Tuesday evening.
